Masoor dal is a spiced Indian lentil dish that's equal parts flavorful and cozy; serve with rice or naan bread for dipping. Now, on to this masoor dal! Masoor dal translates as "red lentils" in Hindi. So a dal doesn't refer to a specific dish, but to actual legumes!

  1. Get 1 cup red lentils / masoor Dal
  2. Prepare 2 tsp Oil

  4. Prepare 1 TSP turmeric powder
  5. Take 1 TSP cumin and coriander powder
  6. Take 1.1 /2 TSP red chilli powder or to your taste
  7. Take 3 cloves garlic sliced
  8. Take 1 TSP cumin seeds
  9. Get 3 cups water
  10. Make ready Fresh coriander leaves to garnish

Masoor Dal is a popular lentil based dish from the North Indian Cuisine and is often made in Indian homes. The dish is made with pink lentils which are Pink lentils are also known as red lentils and orange lentils. Note that these are not Puy lentils. The Masoor Dal lentils can be split or whole and.

Steps to make Masoor Dal OR Red lentils:
  1. In a pot heat the oil on high flame and add the cumin seeds.it should brown straight away so add the garlic and reduce the heat or your garlic will burn.in a small bowl combine all the dry spices and add a little bit of water to make a paste and when your garlic is golden brown add the spice paste.
  2. Cook the spices for about a minute.by adding the water to your spices it will stop it from burning.and gives it enough time to cook and lose the row taste of the spice.
  3. Add the Dal/ lentils and the water and cook it covered until it's done.(If you are cooking in a pot you might need more water.You can adjust the water by adding some if it's to thick.or reduce the amount of water by cooking some more if it's to thin.) sprinkle with coriander leaves and serve hot.
  4. Note:- if you have a preser cooker this Dal is done in 15 minutes.if not it will take some were between 30-45 minutes depending on the water hardness.

Note that these are not Puy lentils. The Masoor Dal lentils can be split or whole and.
