  1. Take Suitable fruit (I prefer apples (4) or rhubarb (8 sticks)or bilberries (500 g)

  6. Take 1 tbsp flour

Crumbles are part of a family of fruit desserts that include crisps and crumbles. Crumble has a streusel-meets-pastry topping that is both crisp and craggle-filled, while the underside is softened by the fruit juices. Crumbles are more fruit-forward than their more elegant pie and tart cousins. Place apples in a large mixing bowl and toss with sugar, lemon juice, flour, and cinnamon.

Steps to make Crumble:
  1. Cut the fruit in 1-2 cm pieces, if necessary, put in an oven tray, sprinkle some sugar and flour and mix well until evenly coated
  2. Mix flour and sugar
  3. Cut the butter in cubes and squeeze it into the flour-sugar mixture. It is important to not work the dough. It should just about form a loose ball (without spontaneously crumbling)
  4. Crumble the ball over the fruit. I prefer relatively large crumbles of ~1 cm
  5. Bake for 20 minutes at 225C (fan) or until the crumbles start to brown lightly. Turn off the heat and let cool, leaving the crumble in the heat to let the fruit soften without the crumbles browning much further
  6. Serve either hot with cold custard or vanilla ice cream, or cool with warm custard

Crumbles are more fruit-forward than their more elegant pie and tart cousins. Place apples in a large mixing bowl and toss with sugar, lemon juice, flour, and cinnamon. The terms "crumble" and "crisp" are often thrown around interchangeably when discussing a baked fruit dessert with a sweet, streusel-like topping. But technically speaking, there is a difference, and it all comes down to one ingredient: rolled oats. A crisp contains oats in the topping, while a crumble does not.
